Testimonials from Parents

My son attended Reach Learning Center for one on one tutoring, as well as for some group learning, over a period of approximately three years.  Not only did his reading, spelling and comprehension improve dramatically, so did his confidence.  The teachers explained things and did games and activities with him in a way that he could understand; he truly enjoyed going to Reach!  He is now thriving at school, and this is in large part due to the excellent teachers at Reach.  I would highly recommend Reach for any child who is not flourishing in a traditional school setting.

We have enjoyed our time at REACH and have found it beneficial on a number of fronts.
#1 - building confidence
#2 - building skills
#3 - building success
#4 - easy to see results!
Thank you for your time and energy!

We deeply appreciate your guidance and assistance this year. You have provided Arthur and I endless support in helping us understand the IEP process. With your guidance we were able to improve Adrienne’s IEP and become better advocates for our child. After my meetings with you, I learned how to review the IEP draft and make specific demands to ensure Adrienne receives the help she requires. The response from the school was they have never received such a thorough review of their IEP draft before. We can say without a doubt that Adrienne would have a very difficult time in grade two had she note been tutored by REACH. She is quite a different little person from the one who stepped into REACH two years ago. She is much more confident and has, in the last couple of months, started to write in her personal journal. She would have never picked up a book willingly two years ago but will now read books by herself and read them over and over again. We still have a long way to go in making Adrienne a self-reliant and functioning individual but we are definitely happy with her development. Many thanks,
Nancy and Arthur.

REACH has made a huge difference in my son’s development. I think he learns more in his 2 hours a week at REACH than he does in his 30 hours a week at school. Corey and her staff have been wonderful and we are so thankful that we found REACH.

Hayley loves going to REACH. The learning environment is very comfortable for her, and the positive feedback and support she receives make a big difference to her.

My son has really flourished under the guidance and support of his REACH instructor. He is always happy to go to his tutoring sessions and is proud to show off what he has learnt. It has been a very positive experience, so much so that I have registered both my children in the summer program.

Our experience at REACH has only been positive. Our child’s reading and writing skills have improved at REACH noticeably and this has given her confidence to tackle any challenge at school! Thank you!

In 3 years Chris turned into the most happy child through this ongoing progress. Chris is always happy when he attends his tutoring. When he comes back he finds it ALWAYS AWESOME!
Thank you so much, Corey.
Love Beatrice and Stefan S.

It has been easy to follow my son’s progress with regular report cards and any questions I have had have been answered promptly. Warren enjoys coming to REACH. We have seen improvement in his reading fluency and penmanship.

Feedback from our Parent Nights

I learned to appreciate how challenging it is for people with dyslexia through your parent workshop in the fall. It was a real eye opener!
Parent, West Vancouver

I enjoyed Dr. Reid’s talk about Dyslexia. It was very informative.
Parent, North Vancouver

Very informative! This workshop has reaffirmed my belief that my son is getting help in a professional and caring place. Thank you!
Parent, North Vancouver

Thanks for the workshop. It has provided me with some practical tools that I can use in my classroom. I am interested in trying these phonological awareness activities to see if this might be the reason that some students are struggling.

Thank you, Corey. This was an informative presentation.
Learning Assistance Teacher, North Van

Thanks, Corey. It was very informative and easy for the non-teachers in the room to follow. I’ve left with a lot of great ideas.
OG Tutor, Delta

Thanks for helping me revisit phonological awareness. I know where my gaps are I teaching, as wll as what I am doing that is working well.
Teacher, North Van

Wonderful workshop! Highly informative and practical.

This was great Corey. Looking forward to future sessions.
OG Tutor, Surrey

The content of the workshop was excellent and the delivery was very thorough. Corey is an excellent facilitator, very professional , clearly very knowledgeable and able to present with ease and humour. I learned a lot and look forward to hearing of future workshops. Thank you!
Teacher, West Van

I didn't get a chance to thank you at the end of the workshop on Saturday.  Your workshops were extremely beneficial to me and have put the "spark" back into my instruction these past couple of days.  It certainly made me miss the OG community in the Lower Mainland. Thanks again for inspiring me and modeling just how dynamic and interactive an afternoon can be.

Here is a sampling of the feedback we received after the MSL Tips and Tricks workshop was presented for the first time in July of 2009:

Tips and Tricks: July, 2009
Being that I teach intermediate students who continue to struggle with decoding & encoding, this workshop really provided me with some strong underlying knowledge of the mechanics of language in a  very meaningful way. I am shocked that most teachers are missing this type of training. It is an invaluable tool to bettering our teaching and facilitating literacy development in our students. If every teacher had this knowledge there would be more mastery at a younger age and less of those we find in grades 4 & 5 who continue to struggle with the basics. Thank you for offering it – I would love to continue learning at REACH.
Private school elementary teacher, West Van

I have learned a lot about how to teach phonics, and about the English language. It has also made me aware of how much there is to learn still. I would love to hear about any upcoming workshops that might be geared towards intermediate students (morphology & syntax). Thank you.

Corey, you are an amazing instructor! Your sense of humour enabled me to stay on task, want to learn the “new” material with eagerness and excitement. I would recommend this course to anyone who works with children so that they can instruct them properly. Thank you for helping me bring this “new” material in the classroom so that I can apply it properly to my little cutie pies.
Special Educator, North Vancouver

Very informative. All teachers should be made to take this course.  Very well presented. The humor you gave made an otherwise dry subject memorable. The course material is well written, easy to read. Very motivated to get my full teaching degree now!
Mother of LD Child

Keep up the great work! This workshop completely met by explicit goal in coming (by the end of day 2!) and provided a whole lot more besides. I welcomed your openness to questions and your willingness to work through with us to our own point of understanding. I admired your persistence in providing lots of examples to facilitate overlearning – This is something I see that I need to do more of.

Well worth the heat and giving up part of the summer to attend. It would be a great workshop to have at teach school and make mandatory for at least all primary teachers if not all elementary. Materials and practice of concepts very helpful. I feel more confident about stepping into the LA position now.

You’re a dynamic presenter. You’ve turned the light bulb back in my head. Can’t wait to try this out in September.
SEA, Vancouver

This was a terrific workshop as I had never known the reasons behind the spelling rules. I really do wish this was given in teacher’s college. It would have been great to have gone into morphology a little more, but I do understand about time constraints. It would be great to have a follow up workshop to see how it has been implemented in classrooms. I enjoyed all the activities provided.
Teacher, Vancouver

Thank you for the enjoyable workshop. I learned a lot, even having taken the (O-G) course in Prince George (many years ago). I especially liked the kinaesthetic clues because I am not a kinaesthetic learner myself. I love the Step Into Phonics guidebook and I pray that our K, 1 and 2 teachers will see the great value in all of us working from the same page! Thanks for your sense of humour in presentation.
Teacher, Agassiz

Thank you for your very humorous presentation of content (lots of content). While it will take some time for me to integrate new learning or the “why” behind the information presented it will, and has, certainly enriched my understanding. I love that you love words and that enthusiasm is catchy! Thanks again.  Special Educator, North Vancouver

This workshop has been an eye opener. Very informational! Love the activities!  Instructor delivered information in a way that was relative to us. It was fun... she was fun.

Thank you so much for offering this amazing, informative, and rich of knowledge workshop. It’s been a great opportunity coming and learning about O.G approach this summer. Hope there is more offered in the near future.   Corey, you are a great and fun teacher. I can’t believe how I was so focused and pleased to learn all the new skills that you’ve taught us in this workshop, even though it was too hot to lose attention. Thanks again and it’s been a pleasure getting to know you. Looking forward to more workshops.
SEA, North Vancouver

Thank you very much. I came away with many of my questions answered. As someone not new to teaching but new to grade 1, the scope and sequence part was very important to me. I wish I had known this last year. The rules were very clearly laid out. You rock!  The food was great and I really loved the healthy choices provided.
Grade 1 Teacher, North Vancouver

I found the course absolutely awesome. It was very interesting and informative as to how letters symbolize sounds to blended sounds to syllables to making a word. The many rules are great pieces of knowledge essential to all students and I wonder if this method was incorporated within class rooms as to how many students would then have difficulties.  Your personal presentation was very delightful and infectious, to keep the enthusiasm up.
Elementary Teacher, North Vancouver

Teaching materials are superb and helpful. Games and activities during the class make it fun & enjoyable and help the rules to stick. Corey is an excellent presenter and she delivers the rules in a very organized
and clear manner. I enjoyed the class very much and had invaluable take away.
Parent of dyslexic child, Hong Kong

The workshop has been well presented and easy to follow. It has been good to learn the rules for all the words & spellings that I use automatically without knowing why.  Teaching JK & K it is important to know the basics right from the start. This is an area that I have not had any teaching in at all.
